El Pulgarcito de America
After years—decades—of only hearing stories about El Salvador being the most dangerous country in the world, fast forward to the last few months of 2025, and El Salvador is now known for turning its fate around and becoming the safest country in the Western Hemisphere.
As a Salvadoran myself, having lived a few years of my life in “El Pulgarcito de America”—The Tom Thumb of America—as El Salvador is affectionately called, I realized it is time to tell and share the beautiful side that was once overshadowed by fear and crime.
Tom Thumb is a character from English folklore, a tiny boy no bigger than his father’s thumb. The nickname “El Pulgarcito” compares El Salvador to this small figure, highlighting that it is the smallest country in Central America, yet full of charm and spirit.
El Salvador is known for its beautiful beaches, home to some of the most sought-after surfing waves in the world. But there is so much more to it, from volcanoes, lakes, waterfalls, hiking trails, national parks, coffee plantations, ancient Mayan sites, charming colonial towns, and more.
I feel there is an important part that doesn’t get much representation in the world: the many artisans who help make Salvadoran culture as picturesque as it is. So I am dedicating this little business of mine to all those artisans in El Pulgarcito de America. It is my goal and hope that their creativity, talent, and hard work can be seen and appreciated worldwide, while they get paid fairly and recognized for their talent and hard work.
